About the Coastal Rowing Centre

The Coastal Rowing Centre welcomes individuals and groups, with a wide range of abilities, who want to experience coastal rowing. We provide instruction, recreational outings and training for athletes who compete in the Coastal Rowing League and other events.

The Coastal Rowing Centre is the home of the Coastal Barbarians Rowing Club.

If you are new to rowing, want to return to rowing after a few years off the water, an active river or a gig rower keen to try “sliding-seat” coastal rowing, you will be very welcome. The Coastal Rowing Centre has a fleet of coastal singles and doubles, some training and recreational boats, some racing boats. The Coastal Barbarians often bring their own boats when they come to Studland to train.

Outings are primarily in Studland Bay; when the weather and tides allow we may go around to Swanage Bay and into Poole Harbour and around the islands.

The Coastal Rowing Centre is at Knoll Beach, Studland, Dorset. We have a boat compound at the beach. Knoll Beach is run by the National Trust, with plenty of parking (free for NT members), a cafe, shop and toilet facilities.

This is a stunning area to visit; in addition to coastal rowing there are plenty of other healthy outdoor pursuits for you, your friends and family to enjoy.  There is a range of accommodation locally if you are coming down for a few days.

Please note: Coastal rowing is a risk sport; you must be able to swim.

You must be aged 14 or over, if under 18 you must be accompanied by an adult. If you are from a rowing club or school and want to arrange lessons for rowers under 14, please call.

If the weather conditions are deemed unsuitable, we reserve the right to postpone or cancel lessons at short notice. We can normally give a few days notice of cancellation.
